CONFERENCE PROGRAM

The World Congress and Annual Meeting Conference Program will provide valuable information and insights for today’s international and domestic leaders in all modes of the transport industry. Transportation experts will speak on ITS issues and solutions in Plenary, Executive, Special, Technical, Scientific, Interactive, Annual Meeting, Pan-American, and IBEC Sessions.

The sessions are structured to encourage audience discussion with panelists and presenters to advance the exchange of knowledge and technology capabilities.

A technical & scientific program consisting of 167 sessions will be offered, providing delegates with up to 25 wide-ranging sessions to choose from in each time slot. This is in addition to all of the activities in the exhibit hall, VII demonstrations, technical tours, workshops, training courses, and special events. The 15th World Congress on ITS and ITS America Annual Meeting offers a rich, innovative, and varied experience for everyone.

Plenary Sessions

Three Plenary Sesions will prepare you for the important work of the 15th World Congress on ITS. Celebrate the international cooperation and ITS advancement fostered by the World Congress with your region’s prominent business leaders and government officials. Learn about the latest challenges and opportunities facing ITS and the policy and strategic implications for ITS deployment. Executive Sessions 

Seventeen Executive Sesions will feature high-level international panel discussions on policy and vision conducted by senior-level executives from the public and private sectors providing an overall picture of their nations’ industries and their ITS initiatives, and solutions to address today’s transport challenges. These topics, critical to the advancement of ITS, will address such topics as e-Safety, system management, communication policies, and cooperative systems. There will also be sessions on broader topical issues such as the role of ITS in sustainable mobility, climate change, and transportation finance. Special Sessions

Fifty-nine Special Sesions speak directly to operational managers and decision makers from around the world, addressing the application of technology, integration of systems and networks, the progress and results of key programs, benefits of ITS services and systems, research and development, training needs, etc. ITS America, ERTICO-ITS Europe, and ITS Japan have developed compelling sessions of immediate interest to the transport community in such areas as cooperative systems, regional ITS strategic planning, enabling mobility, active safety systems, supply chain logistics, carbon footprinting, and benchmarking urban transport performance. Technical and Scientific Sessions

Technical and Scientific Sesions are paper sessions targeted at the ITS professionals and scholars to learn more from the authors about the technical details of the latest transportation technologies, as well as progress and results of vital research programs, field tests, and other initiatives worldwide. Interactive Sessions

Five Interactive Sesions featuring 250 poster presentations offer authors and delegates an opportunity to speak directly one-on-one to explore in depth their latest achievements in technology research, program development, and program assessment. ITS America Annual Meeting Sessions

The ITS America Annual Meeting will offer 52 educational sessions focused on the public and private sector ITS activities and accomplishments in the United States. These sessions will be led by ITS professionals who will highlight emerging and effective ITS partnerships, technologies, initiatives, and policies that have been implemented. PAN AMERICA ITS SESSIONS

Pan-American ITS (PA ITS) was created in 2004 under a Memorandum of Understanding between ITS Argentina, ITS Brazil, ITS Canada, ITS Chile, and ITS America with the objective of promoting research, educational, and commercial cooperation among the ITS organizations of North, Central, and South America. As part of the MOU, every two years PA ITS conducts a Congress, and in 2008, ITS America is hosting the 3rd Pan-American ITS Congress in conjunction with the World Congress on ITS. PA ITS is presenting five special sessions that will address specific Latin American topics and issues on ITS. The sessions will be presented in Spanish with simultaneous translation into English. IBEC Sessions

The International Benefits, Evaluation, and Costs (IBEC) Working Group was created in October 2002 at the 9th World Congress on ITS in Chicago to provide an international forum for information exchange on ITS Evaluation techniques, best practices, and results. IBEC has 400 members from more than 45 countries. Since 2003, IBEC has presented four special sessions each year at the World Congress, hosted by the IBEC Organizing Committee. In 2008, IBEC welcomes you to sessions that will feature presenters from all over the world discussing road pricing, freight transportation, climate change, and special events topics focusing on evaluation perspectives and project updates.
