Joint Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), District 5 Regional Transportation Management Center (RTMC) and Regional Joint Communications
The Florida Department of Transportation's (FDOT) District Five, which includes Central Florida, is a national leader in Intelligent Transportation Systems. We are home to the newest Connected Vehicle Testbed, and manage traffic on the nation's only interstate highway that is fully instrumented end-to-end.
Our unique location provides many traffic management challenges that exist no place else in the world. Walt Disney World, Universal Studios, Sea World and our world-famous beaches make Central Florida the world's top tourism destination. The Daytona International Speedway, Orlando Magic, spring training baseball and Citrus Bowl stadium draw sports fans from across the country. We are also one of the only regions with an intermodal transportation system that includes land, sea and space travel. On top of that, our region is susceptible to natural disasters like hurricanes, tornadoes, wildfires and sinkholes.
On the FDOT Regional Traffic Management Center tour, you have the opportunity to meet the people and see the technology that manages all of those challenges every day. See where our operators:
- Monitor 515 CCTV cameras (including the cameras on Orlando-Orange County Expressway Authority toll roads)
- Manage 239 Dynamic Message Signs
- Dispatch the Road Ranger Safety Service Patrols
- Coordinate with the Florida Highway Patrol
- Publish traffic information on the nation's top 511 Traveler Information System
Come see where ITS history is being made every day and FDOT is managing traffic at the crossroads of the world.
