Chairman, 15th World Congress on ITS
Dear Colleagues:
It’s been three years since the World Congress was held in the United States. I can think of no better city to host this event than New York—a global center of commerce and culture with an international reputation as a world-class city. A World Congress in New York, quite simply, will be an unforgettable experience.
The program for the 15th World Congress on Intelligent Transport Systems reflects a global spectrum of ITS interests, including what is important to you. The outstanding sessions you will attend this November have been carefully developed by leading ITS professionals from around the world. I would like to thank our co-hosts, ERTICO-ITS Europe and ITS Japan, for their assistance and contribution in making this upcoming World Congress program a success.
One of the biggest highlights of this year’s World Congress are the “VII Technology Demonstrations.” Vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-roadside communication technologies and applications will be highlighted by innovative mobility solutions operating on the streets and highways of New York.
You should also take advantage of the technical tours. New York is a recognized leader in the deployment of ITS technologies and practices. The World Congress’ technical tours will enable you to experience New York’s most innovative ITS systems.
The organizers have also reserved plenty of time for you to explore the 350,000 square foot exhibit hall filled with the latest ITS technologies, applications, and services from the U.S. and around the world. I encourage you to spend some quality time in the exhibit hall and let the exhibitors know how much you appreciate their participation.
I would like to recognize the volunteer members of the 15th World Congress on ITS Organizing Committee and its subcommittees for their tremendous commitment to this event.
Make sure you bring your family, too! New York City truly has something for everyone including several family-friendly sights, activities, and places to dine.
So mark your calendar and make plans today to attend the 15th World Congress, November 16-20, 2008 in New York.
See you in New York!

ERTICO - ITS Europe
We are pleased to invite you, on behalf of ERTICO – ITS Europe and its partners, to attend the World Congress on ITS in New York from 16-20 November 2008.
This year’s Congress theme - “ITS Connections: Saving Time. Saving Lives.” – highlights the necessity of deploying ITS solutions that save lives, time and money in an age where the pace of life runs faster every day.
This theme will be largely discussed throughout the 300 policy and technical sessions, as well as be visible in the large scale exhibition area and live demonstrations. Traffic management, mobility solutions, communication technologies, public facilities and many more vital ITS topics with concrete results will be examined.
New York is the ideal city to host this World Congress because it has a longstanding, valuable history of transport solutions, from travel by car, public transport or even by boat. For instance, New York has one of the most wide-ranging and complex public transportation systems in the world. Of course, it also has a large variety of social and cultural attractions, such as the famous Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island Immigration Museum, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and more relevantly, the New York Transit Museum, to name but a few.
We do hope to meet you in New York as this Congress promises to be a major event for the ITS community and an excellent networking opportunity.
Sincerely,
Monica Sundström
Chairman ERTICO – ITS Europe

ITS Japan
After “2005 San Francisco”, “2006 London”, and “2007 Beijing”, the ITS World Congress is coming back to the United States. On behalf of ITS Japan and ITS World Congress Board of Directors in the Asia-Pacific region, I am so honored to invite you to this exciting 15th World Congress on ITS in New York. I believe this will be a wonderful event through the dedicated efforts of the organizing committee of ITS America and the many related people, including the exhibitors and Congress participants.
New York is the energetic center of the world economy. By participating in the Congress sessions, exhibition and other activities, you will meet many ITS colleagues from all over the world and will enjoy an excellent opportunity to enhance your ITS network.
The Congress theme, “ITS Connections: Saving Time. Saving Lives.” keeps sending you the unchanged message as past World Congresses. ITS is a tool to make mobility safe and secure and society environmentally-friendly, comfortable and convenient for the people. I believe ITS is the key to bringing us a livable society and active economy.
This World Congress is a showcase of the cutting-edge ITS technologies and thoughtful policies of the world. I would suggest that everyone see and touch them, exchange opinions, and drive the ITS development even more powerfully.
Again, I would like to express my sincerest appreciation to all the members of the New York World Congress Organizing Committee for their dedicated efforts, and look forward to participation in the Congress from all over the world through the Europe, Americas and Asia Pacific regions.
See you in New York & thank you.

Mayor of New York, Michael R. Bloomberg
Dear Friends:
It is a great pleasure to welcome everyone to New York City and to the Annual World Congress on Intelligent Transportation Systems.
Ever since 1658, when Peter Stuyvesant laid the cobblestones of our City’s first street, New Yorkers have been preoccupied with finding new ideas and innovative solutions to meet our transportation needs. The past 350 years have brought a vast transportation network to our City—from streets and highways, to planes and ferries, to subways, bridges, and tunnels—and today we are proud to see this network stronger and more efficient than ever before. This week, civic and industry leaders from around the world come together to view and discuss ITS designs that will help enhance transportation systems worldwide, ideas that will reduce travel time, improve mobility, and ensure the safety of all their cities’ residents.
On behalf of the City of New York, I commend everyone involved in this Congress for fostering a spirit of cooperation in the transportation industry. I encourage everyone in attendance to venture out into the five boroughs and discover some of the shops, museums, restaurants, and historic landmarks that make New York the greatest city in the world. Please accept my best wishes for an enjoyable event and continued success.
Sincerely,
Michael R. Bloomberg
Mayor
