IRF Roadside Safety Application Course
Program & Registration Information
Saturday, October 15
12:30 p.m. - 4 p.m.

Sunday, October 16
8:45 a.m. - 4 p.m.

The International Road Federation Roadside Safety Applications Workshop is tailored for road authorities and consultants to teach them how to turn existing and new roads into "Forgiving Highways" and eliminate needless deaths. The training workshops will teach the attendees the proper steps to follow to make a road safer by eliminating the hazard, moving the hazard, making the hazard less rigid. In addition to learning about the technologies that are successfully eliminating needless deaths on roads around the world, attendees will better understand which of these technologies are appropriate for their local conditions. They also will be introduced to the performance testing criteria being utilized in the United States (NCHRP 350) and in Europe (EN-1317) to allow them to make intelligent, cost effective choices.

FOT-Net Fourth International Workshop
Sunday, October 16
Hilton Orlando Free of charge. Registrations will open in June.
Round tables start at 8:00 a.m. Plenary session starts at 12:00 noon with lunch

FOT-Net has been established by the European Commission to network Field Operational Tests (FOTs) organizers in one strategic networking platform in order to address common issues related to the practical organization, set up and follow-up of FOTs results. There is a need for the different regions (Europe, Asia-Pacific and North America) to cooperate on common FOTs issues, such as data handling and sharing, methods and deployment. With successful events organized at the ITS Congresses in New York, Stockholm and Busan, FOT-Net has established an international network of FOT organizers, aiming to tackle common working issues and foster cross-region cooperation.

A series of Round Tables will be organized at FOT-Net’s Fourth International Workshop addressing FOT issues that have been identified as of high priority such as issues related to cooperative systems FOTs, data sharing, tools for FOTs and actions linked to deployment. An international panel of FOT experts will be invited to debate in each round table. Other experts and stakeholders are welcome to participate to the round tables as observers. During the afternoon session, conclusions from the round tables will be presented and discussion will be open to the general FOT community who will validate these conclusions. General objectives of this workshop include:

- Reinforce the global FOT network in order to exchange knowledge, best practices and foster cooperation for FOT activities.
- Support the coherent development and implementation of FOTs at European and International level.
- Increase the cooperation between FOT activities and their stakeholders leading to faster and effective take up of Intelligent Transport Systems and Services.

IBEC Workshop
Sunday, October 16
10:00 a.m. - Noon

The International Benefits, Evaluation and Costs (IBEC) Working Group is a cooperative working group set up to coordinate and expand international efforts, to exchange information and techniques, and evaluate benefits and costs of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS). Its annual workshop, traditionally held in conjunction with the ITS World Congress, covers a range of important evaluation, cost benefit, and performance management strategies that are designed to encourage and support ITS decision makers to make better informed ITS investments.

ITS Standards Workshop (Presented by U.S. DOT)
Sunday, October 16
12:30 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.

The ITS JPO Professional Capacity Building Program will present a workshop on the ITS Standards Training series currently under development. The workshop will include excerpts from the first three training modules: I101: Using ITS Standards: An Overview, A101: Introduction to Acquiring standards-based ITS Systems, and A102: Introduction to User Needs Identification. Participants will also be exposed to the additional 15 modules that will be available for them to pursue immediately. These modules will cover practical applications for acquiring and testing standards based ITS systems. Different modules will be available that address systems designed using the Systems Engineering Process (SEP) and those designed without using the SEP. The workshop will inform participants on additional modules that will be developed in the future and the different opportunities that they will have for participating in training, such as individual online learning or grouping modules together to provide a blended learning experience with an instructor if so desired.

Intelligent Transportation Systems NTCIP 1213 “Electrical Lighting & Management Systems” Workshop
Sunday, October 16
4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.
Lake Highland Ballroom B
Hilton Orlando
6001 Destination Parkway, Orlando, Florida, USA 32819
Tel: 1 407 313 4300 Fax: 1 407 313 4301

The working group will review the standard published earlier this year, focusing on the three main areas of the specification, particularly roadway lighting control including dimming and adaptive lighting; revenue grade energy metering, and safety considerations including ground fault detection and interruption.

Future enhancements will be discussed including electric vehicle service equipment (EVSEs), support of home area networks (HAN) and the energy services interface (ESI) required for integration into the nation's “Smart Grid” electrical distribution.

Harmonization of standards will also be examined including those created by the Department of Energy's (DOE) Smart Grid Interoperability Program (SGIP) operated by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and the DOE Municipal Solid State Lighting Consortium's specification for roadway lighting controls. Other specifications will be reviewed including the Illuminating Engineering Society's (IES) Guide for Selection of Roadway Lighting Controls, as well as the supporting training materials being developed by the International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA).

This meeting will immediately follow the ITS Standards Workshop in the Lake Highland Ballroom B at the Hilton Orlando.
